Wild Rumpus Party (via hwtm)

I am so in love with this "Wild Rumpus" party featured on the site Hostess with the Mostess.  The whole thing was dreamed up and photographed by Jackie of Jackie Culmer Photography and Design.

I love the bright pops of yellow and the woodland details.  Where the wild things are is a current favorite bedtime read of my daughters.  It's fun to see the story come to life in such a fun and playful way.

See all the fun details here!

What about you?  Are there any childrens books you would like to see come to life in a party?

DIY suitcase table

I am completely smitten with this DIY project featured over on Design Sponge today.  Find the full instructions here.  The project was created by Ashley, owner of Dingaling Vintage (check it out, I love it!).  You can find her blog here.

We have been preparing our home for an appraisal and have both agreed our bedroom needs some help.  It's the most neglected room in our house by far.  I love the idea of putting something unique, like this suitcase table, on the end of the bed.

I also love the bold graphic bedspread.  Our bedroom is completely neutral and could use some color.

What about you, is your bedroom a sanctuary or a neglected catch-all like mine?

Hope

While visiting family this weekend, I had the chance to snap a couple pictures of my mother-in-laws garden.

Some brave flowers have poked through, despite the days still being cold.

A sign. A the promise of good things to come.

A reminder to hang in there,

the end of one thing is the beginning of another.

Wisdom

I'm driving home from Seattle this morning, but I thought I would leave you with a little bit of wisdom:

I love this print by Laurel Smith, owner of the etsy shop Laurel Denise.  I love her simple photo styling and I think the print would look quite nice on my bedroom dresser.

Happy mail

I just received the cutest thing in the mail yesterday from Dandee and Lindsay.  They sent a "ticket" to all the attenders of Project Craft.

Wanna see what's inside?

My husband was standing next to me when I opened it. He smiled and said, "that's a lot of work for a little ticket."

He just doesn't get it.

Project Craft is coming up this Saturday.  I hope to work on some little things for my shop (opening soon!) while rubbing shoulders with some locals who love to create as much as I do.  I feel so lucky to have a place to do that.

Do you have any fun plans for this weekend?  Whatever they are, I hope it's a good one ;)

Made at home: Salt + Sugar scrub

About this time every year I start to notice how rough my winter skin is.  Images of swimming suits and tank tops start to terrify me (for more reasons than one!).  I came up with this simple salt and sugar scrub to make at home.  I find it works well without drying my skin out.

The best part?  You may have most of the ingredients on hand right now.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup Kosher salt
1 teaspoon sugar
drizzle of olive oil (about a tablespoon)
the juice of 1/4 of an orange or 1/2 of a lemon

 To Make:
Just mix all the ingredients together in a container.  I've always made this the same day I use it, so I'm not sure about the shelf life, but it may be able to keep for a couple of days in a sealed container.

To Use:
Rub on rough patches when skin is DRY, preferably in the shower (to avoid a mess on the floor).  Turn the shower on and rinse.  Bonus:  if using on legs, some of the oil will remain and make for a nice shave.

Printed dresses for spring

Are you into all the '70's inspired prints and 80's color blocking this spring?  It's really starting to grow on me.  It seems that nothing is off limits when it comes to color combination.

Throw on a cozy sweater or blazer to make this outfit work for crisp spring days and wear the dress as is in the summer with some strappy sandals.

Check out Spool72 for other one of kind dresses for spring-made right here in eastern Washington (cow country)!

Business cards + Doily envelope tutorial

I recently made some simple business cards to hand out.  Since most of my designs include a handmade element, I wanted my cards to as well.

Doily envelopes are easier to make than you may think!  The original tutorial I used can be found here, but I improvised a little since I could only find round doilies at the store.

The basic idea is to make a template of your envelope shape, trace it on to a piece of vellum paper and cut out.  Use spray adhesive to adhere a doily to your vellum and cut to fit.  Fold and secure the inside of your envelope with double stick tape.  Pretty easy, right?  I think they would be great for a wedding invitation.

Day trip to Walla Walla

How was your weekend?  We had a great time Saturday browsing the shops and eating in Walla Walla, our favorite small town nearby.  Besides the famous sweet onion, we love the pretty 40 minute country drive on the way there and the little main street  filled with shops and wine tasting rooms.  Of course we forgot our camera this time!  These pictures were taken last summer by my husband.

We always get a coffee when we get there and stroll the street for a while with the girls before eating dinner or lunch at our favorite cafe, the Olive.

The restaurant is also a marketplace and they sell excellent cheese and wine.  They also have an amazing farmers market there in the spring and summer.  Very European, don't you think?  We love their pizza and sandwiches and the desserts are to die for.

We also love the sweet little toy shop. We picked up a couple of dollar toys for the girls including some little wooden spinning tops.  This time I noticed some darling mobiles with little hand painted hot air balloons hanging from the ceiling in the shop that would be perfect for a colorful nursery.  We also spent some time in the sunshine at the local park.

I'm so glad we have a little place to escape to!  How about you, where do you go to get away?

Today...

She is having a tea party, sorting buttons and dreaming big dreams.  The littlest is sleeping and the sun is coming through our window.  I am busy finishing up some business cards, but was distracted by the colorful scene on top of the toy box.

See you Monday, okay?  Have a safe and happy weekend :)

Marking time

Remember those great vintage post cards I found a while back?  I used them to create this perpetual calendar.  I saw the idea over at Design Sponge ages ago and finally had the time to finish it.

I am constantly wishing I was doing more to record all the great things going on in my life daily, while simultaneously trying not to keep too much and end up with Rubbermaid tubs full of things my kids made (I'm looking at you Mom).

That's why I love this little calendar.  There is a small card for each day of the year.  The months are divided by my vintage postcards.  The whole idea is to write a little line about the day on the card, every year.  I think it will be really fun to compare what we were doing over the years.

My only fear now is what to write on those boring days that come along.....  does"sorted massive pile of socks and underwear" count?

Tiny street art

I could be the last to know, but I just ran across the artist Slinkachu, creator of Little People-a tiny street art project.  Have you heard of him?

He creates little people in various scenes and puts them throughout London and takes pictures.  I couldn't find a lot of information on the blog about the start of this fascinating project, but according to Thedesigninspiration he hosts gallery showings of his work in order to "encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings and to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city."

What do you think?  Would you notice a tiny person on the sidewalk?  I find it strange and beautiful.
