Mini Chalkboard Pumpkin Favors
Ellie had her first Kindergarten party the other day. I signed up to bring a craft/favor, and I loved how they turned out, so I thought I would share. I've seen so many images of chalkboard pumpkins floating around and thought it would be fun to make a mini-sized version and tie a piece of chalk to the stem. Black is admittedly one of my favorite colors, so of course I find them beautiful and striking in a way.
To make some chalkboard pumpkins of your own, simply paint (or spray) two coats of chalkboard paint on to pumpkins and let them dry overnight. Word to the wise-make sure the pumpkins haven't been waxed by your local grocer! Our paint wasn't sticking at first and I thought we were experiencing a major crafting fail (the night before the party)! Then I noticed how shiny they were and realized they were coated in a thin wax, similar to apples. A quick soak in the sink with water, lemon juice, and baking soda did the trick.
These were a big hit with the little guys! Are you working on anything special this week?
