Memories, memories

Happy Valentine's Day to you!  On Saturday we went to a cozy restaurant and shared a great pizza and conversation.  Not really any different from most of our dates, but just what I needed after the long week.

Afterward, I brought out my funny homemade gift.  When we moved last summer I ran across all of the notes we wrote each other when we were dating that I had saved.  As a "present" I boxed them up in a pretty box and brought them out for us to read together.  We didn't read them all, but we had a good laugh picking through them.

Some of them were touching and profound, but most of them were just funny and embarrassing, which is why we have to keep them forever.  I was 18 and he was 21 when we started dating just over 8 years ago.  We worked together, but only saw each other in passing throughout the day.  As a result we ended up writing notes to one another and leaving them on the others desk throughout the day.

It was really fun to see the letters go from "you're a great friend" to "I like you" and finally "I love you."   My favorite letter of course is the one where he initially declared his "crush" on me.  I'm glad we can always read these and be transported back to the time when our love was shaky and new.  Props to my husband for doing this with me-it was definitely not something he would come up with on his own.

What about you, are you planning anything special for tonight?

  1. This post warms my heart, Randi! I remember part of your vows, "I love everything about him." Edd and I looked at each other a grinned, wondering how long that sentiment would last! The great thing is that you truly love my son, though you may not like "everything." For that, I could not be a happier Mom! Love you back!

  2. Love the box. I need to do something like this too. My husband and I are note writers. We have just been tossing them into a random bag. (hideous)

Is that just a photo box you used?

ps- came across your blog, (not sure how I got here really) and I think it is lovely. :)
