Made at home: Wool Vases

I have a super easy project for you today!

When it comes to decorating for Autumn, I'm all about cozy materials.  I'm not one to do Halloween themed decor, but I like to change things up a bit.  Neutral tones are my favorite, which is why I love to bring things from the outdoors in.  Like these awesome branches with mini-pumpkins (real!) growing on them.  I had never heard of such a thing, but spotted them at the local Trader Joes.

I found some wool felt on sale yesterday and decided it looked great with the pumpkin branches.  I finally decided to make felt "vases" using the wool.  They look like vases, but are actually just jars with a felt cozy around them.

Do you want to make some too?

Gather: wool felt (the cheap stuff probably won't hold its shape), a small canning jar or drinking glass (I used a half-pint canning jar), embroidery thread, embroidery needle, scissors.

Cut: cut your felt into a rectangle that's wide enough to wrap around your jar with a little bit of overlap.   The rectangle can be as tall as you want it to be.  My rectangles were 8.5" wide.  The height varied from 4.5"-7.5."

Sew:  Sew the two ends together using a basic stitch.  If you need to, you can use pins to hold the vase in shape as you show.  Don't worry about perfection-slight imperfection adds to the charm!

  1. Love these! And I'm going to rush to Trader Joe's to see if they have cute little pumpkins on the vine in Washington!
